One of the challenges of being a triathlete, no matter what age, is that we tend to be fatigued – like all the time!

The first and most important thing of course is to not skip your rest days! But even then, let me give you an example that will ring true with you as well I think.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I spent a day cleaning and renovating a little house we have to get it ready for sale. And in the evening after dinner I was pretty much done and my wife said to me “this is one of the few occurrences where we have both done the same and you should not be tired”. First I thought, yep she’s right what’s wrong with me? But them I remembered that this was my rest day after 4 days of training and I was pretty busy on my rest day, so really we’re not comparing apples with apples here!

Anyhow on with how to manage your fatigue. There’s something really basic you can do, which you probably know but it’s worthwhile making it a more conscious decision so we can apply it at a regular fashion.

Lean, sit or lie down

Don’t stand if you can lean against something, sit if you can instead of leaning and even better lie down instead of sitting when possible. Lying down is certainly a challenge for me if I don’t want to fall asleep. Nothing wrong with an afternoon nap, no not a nanna nap but a power nap! Just remember that a power nap should be no longer than 20 minutes else you’ll wake up and really be drowsy and your afternoon will be of to a bad start.
